TITLES	David Locke Higgins is an internationally collected portrait artist. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Architecture and Design with a degree in advertising and graphic design. He has been a professional artist, illustrator and graphic designer for 40 years. Historically his portraits and illustrations have been created in gouache, pastels and oils. David finds the Mac and Fractal Painter 3.1, as a painting medium, offers him greater expression of form, design and color than any of the traditional materials with which he has worked. His digital work has appeared in several books on the use of Fractal Design’s Painter and Dabbler. The remarkable likenesses are portraits of specific animals that live in the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park. David feels that the closeness of the images allows the viewer to experience the character and personality of the animal with more intimacy than a full body rendering in an environmental setting. While the animals that David paints are not all on endangered species lists today, all are threatened or vulnerable in their natural habitats. It is evident that each creature is potentially subject to the thoughtless encroachment of humans. Standing in the possibility that each of us is significant to ending their destruction, his work is dedicated to the preservation of all living things. David lives and has his studio in San Diego, California.
